UW System Board of Regents approves REC addition
The UW System Board of Regents approved the construction of an addition to UW-La Crosse’s Recreational Eagle Center during meetings Thursday and Friday, Oct. 6-7, at UW-Eau Claire.
The project still requires approval from the State Building Commission during its December meeting. Construction bidding for the project will begin in spring semester 2017. Construction is anticipated to start in summer 2017 and be complete in fall 2018.
The $8.6 million project involves adding a 39,000 square-foot, two-story addition to the southwest corner of the REC. The first floor will include enlarged strength training space, large multipurpose recreation rooms and related support spaces such as locker rooms and restrooms. The second floor will include a larger, multi-use space to allow for activities such as fitness classes.
A 5,200 square-foot basement under a portion of the addition will provide storage of recreation equipment and allow mechanical access from the existing building to the addition.
