Neighbors Day

Posted 2:49 p.m. Wednesday, March 15, 2023

Staff from University Marketing & Communications volunteered for a late afternoon of harvesting at the Kane Street Garden last fall. Faculty, staff and students from campus are encouraged to volunteer during this spring’s community Neighbor’s Day, April 22.

Campus groups encouraged to join community spring clean-up

La Crosse is a community of neighbors helping neighbors. And UWL offices and organizations are encouraged to join in the fun.

UWL employees and students are encouraged to volunteer with the Habitat for Humanity of the La Crosse Area as teams or individually to spruce up yards in the city of La Crosse for Neighbors Day 2023. Volunteers are needed from 8 a.m.-3 p.m. Saturday, April 22, to help the elderly and neighbors with disabilities get their yards ready for spring. All tools will be provided. And free breakfast and lunch will be served.

This isn’t the first time teams from university offices will help out the community. Kaylie Connaughty, University Marketing & Communications, helped organize a harvesting volunteer opportunity for her office last fall at Kane Street Community Garden.

“It was a wonderful opportunity for some of us in the office to get out and get our hands dirty in helping the community,” says Connaughty. “We not only had lots of fun, but we were also able to build community in our own office.”

It’s easy to register as a team:

  1. Designate an organizer for your team.
  2. Before registering, confirm your group of volunteers.
  3. The organizer should Register online. Click “Respond as a team” (maroon button at the top of the posting).
  4. Follow the prompts to create a team, with the name and email of each participant.
