Hula hoops, waters balloons and Frisbees were just a few of the tools used to keep kids moving this summer at UW-L’s Summer Youth Sports and Fitness Camp. Kids played sports and games while learning about sportsmanship, nutrition, teamwork, fitness and more during the camp Aug. 1-3, in the Mitchell Hall Fieldhouse at UW-L. The camp staff of about 20 are UW-L physical education majors. “We want to show kids physical activity doesn’t have to be burdensome exercise; it can be fun,” says Brian Udermann, professor of exercise and sports science and camp co-coordinator. “Research shows if kids are active when they’re younger they are more likely to stay active as teens and adults.”
