Library hiring students interested in social media marketing and photography

Murphy Library is looking to hire creative and energetic student employees to work in our Outreach unit. Position descriptions for the two available positions are below.

Interested students should email a cover letter and no more than five examples of their related work to Marc Manke

Social Media Writing Assistant

8-10 hours a week 

Job Responsibilities

  • Create dynamic written content that promotes student interaction on library social media platforms
  • Help brainstorm new ideas and concepts for social media content
  • Adhere to timelines and utilize scheduling tools to post and manage social media content
  • Work as part of the library outreach team to implement social media campaigns
  • Assist with maintaining a consistent identity of Murphy Library by following the departmental brand guidelines
  • Develop additional self-directed projects as time allows
  • Other duties as assigned

Skills and Qualifications

  • Must be a degree seeking student at UWL
  • Marketing or social media experience
  • Knowledge of social media platforms, particularly Facebook, Instagram and Twitter
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills
  • General familiarity with photography and graphic design
  • Excellent time management skills

Preference given to students pursuing a degree in communications, marketing, English or other related fields.


Photographer and Videographer/Graphic Design

5-10 hours a week 

Job Responsibilities

  • Work as part of a team to develop social media campaigns and daily communications
  • Regularly photograph/film library spaces, patrons, events and promotions for marketing and documentation purposes
  • Edit and maintain a library of photos/videos for use across multiple media
  • Edit and maintain design templates and files for library marketing
  • Adhere to timelines and utilize scheduling tools to create print, web and social media content
  • Assist with maintaining a consistent identity of Murphy Library by following the departmental brand guidelines
  • Develop additional self-directed projects as time allows
  • Other duties as assigned

Skills and Qualifications

  • Must be a degree seeking student at UWL
  • Must be familiar with Adobe CC programs Photoshop and Illustrator, (skills with InDesign, Bridge, Lightroom and Premier preferred but not required)
  • Comfortable using smartphone, DSLR and GoPro cameras in the production of graphic and video content 
  • Good communication and interpersonal skills
  • Excellent time management skills

Preference given to students pursuing a degree in art, photography, design, communication, marketing or other related fields.
