Annual Vocal Jazzfest will feature UWL graduate, UWL Vocal Jazz Ensembles Collegiate and La Capella, and a guest high school vocal jazz ensemble.
The UW-La Crosse Music Department will hold its annual Vocal Jazzfest at 4 p.m. Saturday, Jan. 30, featuring a concert in Annett Recital Hall, Center for the Arts, 16th and Vine streets.

This year’s guest artist and clinician is UWL graduate Sarah Shervey, who is making her mark in the Twin Cities as a musical theatre actor and private vocal/piano teacher. Shervey has earned two bachelor of science degrees including musical theater and music education. Her theatre credits in the Twin Cities include: Cathy Hiatt in “The Last Five Years” with the Minnesota Jewish Theatre Company, Belle in Disney's “Beauty and the Beast” with Eagan Summer Theater, Nancy D and Waitress in “A New Brain” with Eat Street Players, Carmen in “The Forger's Apprentice” with Park Theatre Company, and The Sexy Blonde in “Philly the Musical” with Philly the Musical Productions.
Shervey is currently working on recording the soundtrack of “Philly the Musical,” as well as performing in Gilbert and Sullivan's Very Light Opera Company’s “Iolanthe” as a fairy and understudy for the Fairy Queen.
Also performing at the 4 p.m. concert will be UWL’s Vocal Jazz Ensembles Collegiates and La Capella, both directed by Music Department Professor Gary Walth. The concert will also include a guest high school vocal jazz ensemble, “Out To Lunch,” from Prairie du Chien High School, directed by Phil Stiemke.
Doors for the concert open at 3:45 p.m. Suggested ticket donations are $3 for students and senior citizens, and $5 for others.
