The seventh annual Freedom Fest, honoring the nation’s veterans, will welcome the return of a national performing act from the inaugural event, as well as first-timers to the Veterans Memorial Field Sports Complex at UW-L.
Slated for Saturday, June 14, this year’s event will feature headliners Huey Lewis and the News as well as returning performers Gary Sinise and the LT. Dan Band. Local favorites will also return for the second year in a row: The Remainders, 3 Beers ‘Til Dubuque and Neon.
Like previous years, Freedom Fest will also feature a motorcycle rally and ride, starting outside the stadium the morning of the concert event. The day’s events culminate with a moving presentation honoring Wisconsin’s Fallen Heroes from the wars in Iraq and Afghanistan, and their families.
Money raised through Freedom Fest entirely benefits veterans’ causes, including scholarships for veterans returning from active duty who wish to further their education at a University of Wisconsin System school. Proceeds also benefit the Veterans Hall of Honor at Veterans Memorial Field Sports Complex.
To date, Freedom Fest has raised more than $400,000, including $126,000 for veterans’ scholarships. Over the years, Freedom Fest has drawn some of the biggest names in music to raise money for veterans’ causes. Performing acts have included Chicago, Daughtry, REO Speedwagon, ThreeDog Night, Lonestar, Styx and America. The Remainders have been an event mainstay, and have always donated their time to the event.
Freedom Fest tickets are available for purchase at area Festival Foods and on the Freedom Fest website. Freedom Fest staff are available to answer calls and emails from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m., Monday through Friday at 608.385.7433 or at info@freedomfestlacrosse.com.
