Diversity & Inclusion

What's happening in D&I this spring:

  • Today, Wednesday, January 31, marks Vice Chancellor Emeritus Barbara Stewart's final day as interim leader of the Division of Diversity & Inclusion. Our heartfelt thanks and warmest wishes to Dr. Stewart—once again, her leadership during a time of transition has helped steady the ship. The search for a permanent Vice Chancellor of D&I continues—Stacy Narcotta-Welp will fill in as interim VIce Chancellor for the spring semester.

  • Welcome to UWL's new interim Director of Title IX & Compliance, Mike Durnin! Mike is a former Dean of Students (retired) from the University of Dubuque and a UWL Alum. Mike's office is located in 145 Graff Main Hall, and he can be reached at mdurnin@uwlax.edu.

  • McNair Scholars are holding an open house next Tuesday, February 6, from 9 a.m. - 3 p.m. Stop by 2101 Centennial to hear about the program, learn to crochet, jump into some (potentially very competitive) gaming, and eat really good cupcakes.

  • Join SSS & McNair and make tie blankets in celebration of TRIO National Day of Giving, Saturday, February 24, 2024.

  • Social Justice Week is April 2-4. This year's theme is Building Belonging: Identities Shaping Communities. The call for proposals is open through March 1. Interested in volunteering? Sign up here.

  • Campus Thread needs student models for the Spring Fashion Show (April 25). Reach out to transformative@uwlax.edu to learn how to get involved!

  • The newest version of the You Belong poster is available! Stop by CTJ (1120 Centennial) to pick up yours, or request one via mail here. Want to get more involved in the You Belong project? Please take part in this short survey!

  • Mark your calendars (and stay tuned for updates):
    • Black Student Unity presents Reflections of Ebony, Sunday, February 18, 6:30 p.m.
    • Black History Month Celebration, Tuesday, February 29, 11 a.m. - 1 p.m. Watch your inbox for an invitation (RSVP required)
