Fall at UWL

The University will be ending the practice of requiring employees to request vacation hours from their current year’s bank to carry over into the “vacation carryover bank”.

The University will be ending the practice of requiring employees to request vacation hours from their current year’s bank to carry over into the “vacation carryover bank”.

Historically, employees have been required to request approval to carryover vacation more than 40 hours.  This practice will no longer be needed and all remaining vacation from one’s current year bank will automatically rollover to the ‘carryover’ vacation bank.

Employees who are eligible for vacation hours hold two vacation leave banks:

  1. Current year (Vacation line)
  2. All carryover from the previous year (Vacation Carryover line)

Limited, Academic Staff, and A-Basis Faculty accrue vacation on the fiscal year basis, while all other groups accrue vacation on the calendar year basis

This transaction has no impact on an employee’s ability to bank leave once they have met the eligibility requirements to do so.  Banking leave is administered centrally from UW System and University Staff can expect communications to be sent sometime in the next few weeks to engage that process.
