Update on Current Fiscal Year Carryover

On March 11, 2021, UW System President Thompson approved an interim policy extending the use of any remaining FY19 and FY20 hours in vacation carryover through October 9, 2021, for those employee groups whose leave is based on a fiscal year basis, (faculty, academic staff, and limited).

Employees who will be carrying over leave from the Fiscal Year 2019 & 2020 to the Fiscal Year 2022 and have a remaining balance in their “Vacation Carryover” bank will see that balance roll over automatically into the new Fiscal Year, (i.e. FY2022 which begins on 7/1/2021).

What is changing
HR had previously communicated that the standard policy of 40 hours will roll over automatically and if approved, additional hours may roll over.

After additional consideration, this policy will be suspended for this year. There will be no approval and no restriction to the number of hours that can carry over from any remaining vacation hours in your current, fiscal year (FY21) vacation account.  Any remaining hours will automatically roll over into the new fiscal year (FY22).

There is no action needed on your part and no need to submit the request form.

Please note: University Staff carryover is based on the calendar year. University Staff members who had vacation carryover from 2020 will need to use this time prior to December 31, 2021. The 2021 vacation accruals will continue to follow current guidelines.
