Internationally-known ecologist will discuss how humans impact the ecosystem and how people in turn are impacted by the changes they cause.

Internationally-known ecologist David Tilman will discuss how eating right can save people and the Earth during a public lecture at UW-L.
Tilman, whose groundbreaking experiments have broadened understanding of how organisms interact with one another, will speak at 5 p.m. Wednesday, April 29, at 1309 Centennial Hall.
Tilman will also give a lecture geared toward a scientific audience on “Biodiversity: From Evolutionary Origins to Ecosystem Functioning” at 2:30 p.m. Thursday, April 30, in 1309 Centennial Hall.
Tilman comes to UW-L as part of a new lecture series, named in honor of retired UW-L Professor James Warner who died in 2011. Warner taught biology and botany from 1963-1996. The Warner Memorial Lecture Series was made possible through an endowment Warner set up for the UW-L Biology Department to fund scholarships, lectures and other activities.
Tilman is a Regents professor and McKnight Presidential chair in Ecology at the University of Minnesota. He has made crucial contributions to the understanding of how ecological interactions determine patterns in biodiversity, ecosystem productivity and the resilience of natural systems in the face of disturbance. His work provides sustained evidence of his commitment to understanding how humans impact ecosystem dynamics, and how people in turn are impacted by the changes they cause.
A brief social gathering will follow each lecture.
