Congressional Correspondent Mary Bruce to provide political insight 

Congressional Correspondent Mary Bruce to provide political insight A national congressional correspondent for a major TV network is coming to UW-La Crosse to share her insight on the 2016 presidential election, and her current work at the U.S. Capitol. ABC News reporter Mary Bruce will reverse roles during a panel discussion on “Media and Politics in the 21st century” at 6 p.m. Thursday, April 20, in 1309 Centennial Hall. Bruce will answer questions from News 19 6 & 10 Anchor Scott Hackworth and UWL Political Science Assistant Professor John Kovari. Audience participants will also have an opportunity to submit questions. Bruce spent five years covering the White House as a producer and digital journalist during the Obama presidency and then hit the campaign trail during the 2016 race. She currently is the congressional correspondent for ABC News based in Washington D.C. Bruce contributes to all ABC News programs and platforms including, “Good Morning America,” “World News Tonight with David Muir,” “Nightline” and ABC News Digital. Admission to the panel discussion is free and open to all. Her visit is sponsored by UWL College of Liberal Studies, Department of Communication Studies, Department of Political Science/Public Administration, Political Science/Public Administration Association, and University Communications Office.   Who is Mary Bruce? Mary Bruce is the congressional correspondent for ABC News based in Washington, D.C. and contributes to all ABC News programs and platforms including, “Good Morning America,” “World News Tonight with David Muir,” “Nightline” and ABC News Digital. From Capitol Hill, Bruce covers the day’s major political stories, including recently the investigation into Russian interference in the presidential election, the fight for healthcare reform, and the confirmation of Justice Gorsuch. During the election, she traveled around the country contributing to ABC News’ coverage of the presidential campaign. Previously, Bruce served as a multi-platform reporter covering stories ranging from the Iran nuclear deal to Pope Francis' historic visit to the White House. She also reported abroad from Croatia and Serbia on the refugee crisis in Europe. Bruce spent five years covering the White House as a producer and digital journalist, reporting on President Obama’s re-election campaign and traveling with him, following stories such as the Secret Service scandal in Colombia and the president’s historic trips to Myanmar and Panama.
