Jill Billings for advocating for them. Members of the UW-L Student Association named Billings their Higher Education Advocate of the Year. “Rep. Billings was a strong advocate of the higher education, lower debt bill that aimed to help students escape student debt faster after graduation,” says Nick Bezier, president of the UW-L Student Association. “Additionally, she was constantly accessible to address student issues and willing to work with student leaders.” The students honored Billings at the Student Senate meeting at 6 p.m. Wednesday, April 30, in Port O’ Call, Cartwright Center-Gunning Addition. Billings has striven to reach out to students and support their interests in Madison.” The award shows thanks to community members who support students in their efforts to pursue higher education. Billings received a plaque honoring the achievement. This is the third year for the award. Previous recipients have included retired UW-L Political Science Professor Joe Heim in 2013 and former UW System President Kevin Reilly in 2012.
