UW-La Crosse students returning

Posted 3:24 p.m. Monday, Aug. 24, 2020

Ruth Kinstler, left, of RSVP hands Lisa Klein, UWL Community Engagement, a donation of homemade masks for students on campus. Move-in will look different this year. Students will return over five days instead of two. And, all students and guests on campus will be required to wear facemasks and abide by physical distancing policies.

Heavier traffic expected in campus area Sept. 2-6

Move-in at UW-La Crosse will be spread out this fall to reduce the number of students and families arriving on campus at the same time. UWL has shifted move-in from the previous two days to a full week.

New and returning students will be moving in to campus residence halls beginning Friday, Aug. 28. The heaviest move-in days are expected to be Wednesday-Sunday, Sept. 2-6. Students will be given about four hours to complete their unloading and move-in process.

In addition to the extended drop-off times, students can get a jump start on their move-in by dropping off items to their assigned rooms Friday-Sunday, Aug. 28-30. Those who drop items off early will return home for the week before coming back to campus to start classes on Tuesday, Sept. 8.

All students and guests on campus will be required to wear face masks and abide by physical distancing policies.

"We are putting additional thought into how we reduce face-to-face touch points and minimize overall contact" says Lisa Weston, Assistant Director of Residence Life. "We've had a number of conversations with La Crosse County Health and UWL health officials as we crafted our plan for move-in. It's going to be a very different year, but everyone's health and safety is a priority as students return to La Crosse."
