Aliyah Richling, a La Crosse native hired to conduct the UW-L's Women’s Chorus and teach at the university, will give a vocal recital at 4 p.m. Sunday, July 21, in Annett Recital Hall, Center for the Arts.

A La Crosse native hired to conduct the UW-La Crosse Women’s Chorus and teach at the university will be welcomed to campus with a recital.
Aliyah Richling will give a vocal recital at 4 p.m. Sunday, July 21, in Annett Recital Hall, Center for the Arts. The recital is free and will be followed by a welcoming reception.
Richling, a soprano, will be joined by Erik Malmquist of Hampshire, Ill., on violin and Jessica Paul of Decorah, Iowa, on piano. The three will perform works by Bach, Wolf, Brahms, Satie, Bellini and others.
Richling has performed nationally as a soloist and chorister. Her recent performances include Serafina in Wichita State University’s spring production of “Il campanello di notte.” Other operatic roles include Madame Cortese in Rossini's “Il viaggio a Reims,” Poppea in “L'incoronazione di Poppea,” Rose in “Street Scene”, Bastienne in “Bastien und Bastienne,” and Susanna in Mozart's “The Marriage of Figaro.”
In 2012, Richling made her debut with Lyric Opera of Wichita as a soprano soloist in Al Carmine’s “Christmas Rappings.” She was also the soprano soloist in Wichita Chamber Chorale’s performance of Al Fedak’s “Requiem: Us for the Living.” Richling has been a frequent soloist with the Wichita State Concert Choir and the Luther College Nordic Choir.
In 2010, Richling received the Brudos Family Prize in Opera Performance. She was a finalist in the Central Region NATS auditions in 2007 and 2009 and Iowa NATS auditions in 2008 and 2010.
Richling was an active participant in the music department at La Crosse Central High School, devoting time to La Crosse Central’s Grand Central Station and the Central Robed Choir. She holds a bachelor's degree in music from Luther College in Decorah where she studied with Ed Andereck and coached with Jessica Paul. She also holds a master's degree in voice performance from Wichita (Kans.) State University where she studied with Randolph Lacy and coached with Justine Sasanfar and baritone, Samuel Ramey.
Beginning in fall, Richling will be an adjunct faculty member at UW-L, directing the Women's Chorus and applied voice. Previously, she has served on voice faculties of Bethel College in Newton, Kans., and Tabor College in Hillsboro, Kans.
