Students and their families will be reunited this weekend, Oct. 25-27, during UW-L’s annual Family Weekend.
“It welcomes families back to campus,” says First-Year Experience and Student Success Coordinator Jennie Hartzheim. “It gives first-year students the opportunity to see their parents and share their new home with them.”
The families of first-year and returning students will enjoy a busy weekend full of activities to do together. From farmers markets to movies, concerts to bingo, there will never be a dull moment, says Hartzheim. She says the day not to miss is Saturday, Oct. 26.
“Saturday kicks off with Run with the Chancellor, and then families can head over to the stadium to check out the campus block party and tailgate, followed by the UW-L football game,” Hartzheim says.
With just under 500 families already registered making the total visitor count more than 1,000 people, it’s clear why a registration and sign-in process is necessary. The Student Life Office prefers families register in advance so they can make sure to notify event coordinators how many people to prepare for. By registering and signing-in, families receive the latest schedule of events, dining information, coupons and are entered in parent giveaways.
Hartzheim encourages families to participate in the festivities, “Family Weekend is a great time for students and families to connect and share memories.”
Check-in runs from 3-6:30 p.m. Friday on the first floor of Cartwright Center. For a full list of activities visit www.uwlax.edu/familyweekend/index.htm.
This year’s Run with the Chancellor is in memory of Neala Frye, a student who died earlier this year, and the Neala Frye Scholarship Fund. For more information about the scholarship fund, visit this La Crosse Tribune story.
