High School band students from throughout the region are expected to take the field at UW-L Saturday, Sept. 20. They’ll join the UW-L Screaming Eagles Marching Band for its 4th annual High School Band Day.
Around 300 musicians will join collegiate counterparts on Roger Harring Field for special pre-game and halftime performances.
“The event gives high school students an idea of what it is like to be in a college marching band,” says Associate Professor of Music Tammy Fisher, UW-L Marching Band Director. “They also get the experience of performing in front of thousands of fans.”
The seven high schools participating include: Bangor, Dodgeville, Holmen, La Crescent, Prairie du Chien, Tomah and Wabasha-Kellogg.
The high school students will arrive on campus at 2 p.m. to rehearse with the Screaming Eagles, preparing music and dance movements for the pre-game and halftime shows. Following rehearsal, they will eat dinner, suit-up and “step-off” as they march from the Center for the Arts to Veterans Memorial Field Sports Complex.
The pre-game performance includes “Pretty Fly for a White Guy,” “Crazy Train” and the “Star Spangled Banner.” The halftime performance includes “My Songs Know What You Did in the Dark,” “Show me your Burlesque” and “All the Lights.”
The UW-L Eagles football team will be playing the University of Mary Hardin-Baylor from Texas. Game time is 6 p.m.
