Longtime instructor, administrator looks forward to leading college

After eight years as associate dean of the College of Arts, Social Sciences & Humanities, Marie Moeller is ready to take the reins.

Moeller was announced as the college’s new dean, succeeding Karl Kunkel effective July 1, following an extensive national search and interview process.

“Marie's commitment to the liberal arts, scholarly accomplishments, leadership experience across disciplines and national recognition in the area of professional development for department chairs all contributed to her successful candidacy,” Provost Betsy Morgan says. “The committee and I know that Marie will be an excellent leader for the strong faculty, staff, and students of CASSH and a strong collaborator as a campus citizen.”

A faculty member at UWL since 2010, Moeller holds a Ph.D. in English from Illinois State University, with emphases in technical communication, online pedagogy, and disability and gender studies.

In the classroom, she taught primarily technical communication courses, including workplace writing, technical communication theory and practice, grant writing, feminist rhetorics, and risk communication.

Moeller says she looks forward to leading a college whose mission is “at the heart of how we understand and improve our world through critical inquiry, creative expression and public engagement.”

“My priorities center on supporting faculty and student success, strengthening interdisciplinary collaboration, and ensuring our work remains accessible, relevant and impactful in our communities,” Moeller says. “I’m especially committed to fostering environments where diverse perspectives drive innovation and learning. This new role offers a meaningful opportunity to invest in both the intellectual vitality of the college and the people who make it thrive; I am most excited to get to work on their behalf.”
