Understand how MET retraining will affect you
At the University of Wisconsin La Crosse, Mandatory Employee Trainings (METs) play a vital role in maintaining a safe, compliant, and well‑informed workplace.
MET retraining's will be assigned on March 1, 2026, through the Workday Learning platform. These trainings are requirements based on a combination of Federal and State regulations, Executive Orders, Regent Policies, and UW System Administrative Policy 1293.
What METs are Included?
Employees are required to complete four trainings delivered through Workday Learning:
- Information Security Awareness: Required Annually
- IT Security Awareness Training covers best practices for protecting institutional systems and data. This is an increasingly important requirement as many employees routinely sensitive and confidential information.
- Training on Title IX and Preventing Sexual Harassment and Violence: Every 3 years
- This Supports an environment free from harassment, discrimination, and sexual misconduct and fulfills Title IX obligations.
- FERPA training: Every 3 years
- To protect all students' educational records.
- Mandated Reporter Training: Once unless updated
- Ensures all employees understand their obligation to identify and report suspected child abuse or neglect.
Training assignments and reminders are delivered through Workday and employees have 30 days from the date of assignment to complete them.
If you require retraining, you will be assigned the applicable training modules on March 1st, 2026.
Consequences of Not Completing your Retraining:
Non‑completion can have significant consequences. UW System policy specifies that failure to complete required METs may result in ineligibility for pay plan increases. Additionally, failure to complete the Information Security Awareness training may lead to suspension of Workday Security Roles and/or progressive discipline.
Several important updates will affect this year’s retraining cycle. Employees who completed their required training in 2026 but did so outside of their required timeframe will be required to repeat the course in March 2026. Conversely, employees who never completed their assigned training upon hire will receive communication associated with their original training requirements.
Notifications
Two automated reminders are sent to employees following their initial training assignment. These occur at 14 and 21 days after the first notification in Workday. Overdue reminders are then sent at 30 days and again at 60 days past the original assigned date, with supervisors copied on the communication. These overdue reminders continue weekly after this time ensuring employees have ample notice and opportunity to complete their requirements and supervisors are aware of the missing MET.
A virtual training and question and answer session will be held on March 10, 2026 from 10:00AM –10:30AM.
