Discover the best tips for summer study and research!
Summer is a special time at Murphy Library. The crowds are reduced, the pace becomes more relaxed. The air inside is cool, and it's a great time for serious information research and studying.
Take advantage of these five tips to make the most of your summer at UWL.
1.Get help from information experts. Reference librarians are standing by, ready to assist you with any of your information research needs. During summer, reference is by email or individual appointment. Use our Ask-a-Librarian form for email help or send an email directly to refemail@uwlax.edu. You can also schedule an individual appointment to meet with a librarian for help with any information research need - large or small. More information is available at the Reference Services page.
2. Use library resource anywhere, anytime. As long as you have an Internet connection and a valid UWL NetID, you can use almost all library resources from off campus.Read about off campus access to library resources here or watch the Murphy Minute video about off campus access.
3. Find the most relevant resources - fast! Use the library's Subject Guides to get yourself pointed in the right direction. The Subject Guides are collections of all the most relevant information tools arranged by major on campus.
4. Request things from other libraries. Did you know that you can borrow almost anything and everything from the circulating collections of UW-Madison, UW-Milwaukee, UW-Green Bay and all the rest of the UW libraries? It's free and fast. Use Search@UW to find and request materials. Extra: if it's not in one of the UW libraries, we'll go beyond to get it - and that's still free, too. Questions? Contact the Interlibrary Loan Department for expert help at illoffice@uwlax.edu, or 785.8396
5. Find your special place in the library. Murphy Library has areas for quiet study, group study, individual study rooms, bean bag chairs, nooks, crannies, and even some corners. During summers, traffic in the library is greatly reduced - chances are you can carve out a little spot where you can concentrate in peace. Take a look at the library floor plans or read about quiet study spaces in the library.
