Selection criteria
The admissions committee considers several holistic criteria when reviewing applications for admission.
GPA (cumulative and prerequisite)
- Academic success is prioritized
- Minimum cumulative GPA for admission is 3.0
- High GPAs are considered reflective of strong applications
- Particular emphasis is placed on science coursework
Experience & Scholarship
- Research: Research related coursework and participation in research assistantships outside of standard coursework, ideally resulting in publications or presentations.
- Diverse Clinical/Volunteer Work: Experience across a broad range of settings and populations.
- Proven Leadership: Involvement in leadership roles across both academic and extracurricular platforms.
Professionalism & Communication
- Strong Professional Network: Three references from diverse categories (e.g. academic, health-related, and professional) who provide strong recommendations based on direct knowledge of abilities.
- Exceptional Writing: A personal statement that shows a deep understanding of OT, clear career goals, and sophisticated grammar/diction.
- Interpersonal Mastery: A confident interview presence characterized by clear speech, enthusiasm, thoughtfulness, and professional grooming/attire.
Holistic & Resiliency Factors
- Resilience: Demonstrated ability to overcome life hardships.
- Cultural Competence: Multicultural or international experience.
- Distinction: Receipt of merit-based awards, scholarships, grants, or advanced certifications.
- Life Balance: Evidence of managing multiple complex roles, such as athletics, military service, or intensive extracurriculars.
