Chairs update on request for IR data
Discussion surrounding draft survey. I’ve had a couple of comments that I’m sharing below. Please be prepared to discuss these issues (and any others that arise in discussion)
1. There may be too many free-form comment boxes. Most folks don’t fill these in and the data received might not be actionable/useful.
2. Perhaps we could add a question related to “why did you answer the way you did”. For example, following the question about ‘ideal credit load’ we could have a follow up asking them to “select as many of the following reasons as apply” with options like “students are having difficulty grading in four years”, “the size of our major is affected by the size of gen ed”, “student outcomes are not being met”, “other...”, etc...
3. (this is a personal concern) I’m uncertain whether grounding questions of ‘size’ with respect to ‘purpose’ is a good idea. Perhaps it only makes sense with respect to the better-defined categories than purpose. The categories appear to be the defacto definition of what ‘fulfilling the purpose’ actually means.
