The Inclusive Classroom: Its role in retaining and graduating underrepresented STEM students

Ruth Washington, Ph.D. from Kent State University will present a lecture on strategies for broadening participation in STEM fields and creating inclusive instruction for the classroom.

About Dr. Washington:

Dr. Ruth Washington is the Executive Director for Faculty and Graduate Student Retention, Inclusion and Success at Kent State University.  Dr. Washington is nationally recognized for her work on the recruitment, retention and the success of underrepresented minority (URM) students in the STEM areas. She has directed programs at both the National Science Foundation and the Howard Hughes Medical Institute that have focused increasing the number and quality of students from underserved backgrounds in the STEM fields including the Northeast Louis Stokes Alliance for Minority Participation (NELSAMP). The NELSAMP is similar to the WiscAMP program that supports undergraduate research for URM students at UWL.
