Converation with Faculty and Staff: Recruiting Trends

Recruiting Trends by Dr. Phil Gardner -11 a.m.-12:25 p.m. Tuesday, April 10, in 0120, the Student Union Theater
Dr. Phil Gardner, an economist and director of the Collegiate Employment Research Institute at Michigan State University, will give a "Recruiting Trends" presentation focusing on recruiting conditions for 2017-2018 based on detailed information from employers within the Midwest region. It will cover projected hiring targets and future trends by degree level; highlight interest by academic discipline; review employers' views on experiential learning (internships, project-based learning, etc.); and much more. The presentation is free and open to students, faculty and staff, and employer partners. No pre-registration is required.  Sponsored by Career Services and It Make$ Cents!

Dr. Phil Gardner will continue his recruiting trends discussion with faculty and staff to discuss in depth the importance and value that employers see in liberal arts education and how educators can start to develop a "T Professional" in the classroom. No pre-registration is required.

 

About Dr. Gardner
Dr. Gardner is an expert in college labor markets, early career socialization of college graduates, skills/competency, and the workplace, role of internships, co-ops, study abroad in hiring and career success and preparedness of young adults for work in a rapidly globalizing economy. Dr. Gardner has led the research efforts at CERI for 23 years. The Institute is internationally recognized for research on the transition from college to work. He also teaches a course commonly referred to as "What Do I Do with the Rest of My Life" for sophomores and juniors and has led several freshmen study abroad groups.
