Symphonic Band Concert

The Symphonic band is open to students representing all academic disciplines across campus.  The concert will feature a unique collaboration with Art professor Dewayne Wrencher.  Wrencher will show a graphic video presentation while the band performs “Blue and Green Music” by Sam Hazo.  This piece was based on artist Georgia O’Keeffe’s 1921 painting of the same name.  Artist O’Keeffe created this artwork upon the idea that music could be translated into something for the eye.  Composer Sam Hazo created this composition as a means to translate it back into something for the ear.  This concert will also feature Student Conductors Josh Beron and Andrew Jones.  Pieces performed include “A Festival Prelude” by Alfred Reed, “Joy Revisited” by Frank Ticheli, “Blue and Green Music” by Sam Hazo, Night on Fire by John Mackey and “American Big Top” by Brian Balmages.   Admission is free.
