In her work Solveig Landa builds up a simple and abstract idiom, where human conditions, unfair distribution of resources and concern over environmental issues come into view. Connections, cycles, energy, and existence are consistent motifs. The same is the contrast between concepts such as above and below, man- made objects and nature. Her projects consisting of prints and objects are often about taking care of things, recycling, processing, and finding new ways to use seemingly banal objects. In this process, the original object loses its function and enters a new context. In all this lies the artist's belief that our surroundings influence us. She often includes myths and tales into her work. Her overall motive is to find possible entrances to an expanded understanding of our species' existence in the world.

Solveig Landa is a visual artist based in Stavanger, Norway. She earned a BA in Arts from Montana State University in Bozeman and a MFA from University of Washington in Seattle. Landa works primarily with printmaking, and often in combination with sculptural objects and installations. She also work with artists books.

Her work has been included in numerous group exhibitions in venues ranging from innovative commercial galleries to artist-run spaces, and non-profit institutions in Norway, around Europe and in USA. Her work is also part of Art in Public Spaces in Norway and is in the collection of the Nordic Heritage Museum in Seattle and The Norwegian Embassy in Beirut, Lebanon among others.

She has received several grants from The Norwegian Visual Artists Fund and is a member of The Association of Norwegian Visual Artists and The Association of Norwegian Printmakers. Landa teaches art and manages Tou Trykk, a printmaking workshop in her hometown.

Art in Tandem is a collaborative printmaking and design project that connects professional, working artists with student artists at the University of Wisconsin- La Crosse. Through the project students and artists collaborate to create a print edition, catalog, and exhibition highlighting the artistic products achieved through this unique partnership. This accompanying lecture series allows the collaborating artists to share their art practices with the greater art, campus, and La Crosse communities. Art in Tandem is created and organized by Zachary Stensen, Assistant Professor of Art, and Marc Manke, Assistant Professor of Art, and has been made possible by generous support from the UWL College of Arts, Social Sciences, and Humanities small grant program and the Department of Art.

Please direct any questions or requests for disability accommodations to Marc Manke, Assistant Professor of Art, at mmanke@uwlax.edu.
