Eugene W. Murphy Award Reception

Posthumously honoring Dave Thomson, 2024 Winner

The Eugene W. Murphy Library Special Recognition Award was established in 1986 to recognize those that have significantly contributed toward advancing the library's mission. This year, we are excited to announce that the Award is being posthumously presented to the late G. David Thomson, Jr. 

Dave was a steamboat historian, enthusiast, and collector of all things steamboats. His unexpected passing in 2021 left his brother, Darryl, searching for a new home for Dave's vast collection, valued at over $64,000. Murphy Library's reputation led Darryl to reach out, resulting in the 2022 cross-country journey of Dave's materials from CA to their new forever home in Special Collections.

Please join us in honoring Dave Thomson for his contributions on Monday, May 6, 2024, in Murphy Library Special Collections. A reception with hors d'oeuvres and beverages will begin at 5:00 p.m. with the award ceremony beginning at 5:30 p.m.
