A page within Oral History Program

OHP is hiring for Spring 2024!

We are looking for 2 students to join OHP as Digital Preservation Technicians.

Digital Preservation Techs help prepare oral history materials (audio, transcripts, indexes) for archiving in Murphy Library, and help OHP create website content and teaching materials based on our interview collection.  This job involves listening to oral history interview recordings, conducting research to fill in missing information, and collaborating with OHP staff (Director and other Digital Preservation Techs) to write content about the interviews.  This position's weekly work will be connected to OHP's new "College Life" oral history project, which supports sections of UWL's FYS 100 course.

Applicants should be competent in these Eagle Advantage skillsets: verbal and written communication, research and critical thinking, problem-solving, and adaptability.

Employees can work up to 10 hours per week during the semester, and up to 20 hours per week during summer.  Students set their own schedule based on their availability during the school week (M-F, 8 am-5:30 pm).  The current pay rate is $12/hr.  Students hired by OHP tend to work for us until graduation – this job can be a multi-semester position.

We currently have 2 positions open for Spring 2024.  We hope to conduct interviews in mid-late February.  The job positing will remain active until 2 students have been hired.

To apply: email a resume and short writing sample to OHP's Director, Professor Tiffany Trimmer at ttrimmer@uwlax.edu.

Optional qualifications (not required for consideration): former FYS 100 students familiar with OHP's "College Life" oral history project are encouraged to apply.  Students who have completed HIS 200, or are currently enrolled in that course, are encouraged to apply.

Broad Field Social Studies and History Education

"The Oral History Program has given me experiences I would not have gained elsewhere. OHP not only altered my view of the history discipline, it has also given me a greater appreciation for the unheard histories of community members, people of color, veterans, and laborers."

"Working for OHP is an extraordinary opportunity: it is arguably the most flexible job one can find while being a full-time student. It offers an additional pathway to gain historical knowledge, while getting paid for it."
