The Annual UWL Conference on Teaching and Learning highlights teaching and learning projects by UWL instructors and staff, and provides opportunities for instructors to share their work and learn about the work of others. 

The 2023 Conference will focus on pedagogy for general education classes.

  • 8:45am - Breakfast
  • 9:00 am - 9:10 am - Welcome from CATL and Provost Morgan, Bluffs Room in The Union
  • 9:10 am - 9:30 am - Keynote by Sarah Pember (PH-CHE), Bluffs Room in The Union
    • Title: A Taxonomy of Connection in the General Education Classroom
    • Brief Description: This brief session will break down the various forms of connection that can be found in the general education classroom, and support an engaged participant in considering how those types of connection can be enhanced in their own classroom or other student interactions, to promote overall community and individual belonging. 
    • About Sarah: Sarah Pember is an Associate Professor and Undergraduate Program Director in the Department of Public Health & Community Health Education, where she teaches courses in adolescent health, health education methods, program planning, and sexuality education. Her goal as an educator (in both higher education and in her previous life as an elementary school teacher and interventionist) has always been to foster a sense of community within her classroom and school, striving to ensure that everyone feels that they are valued and belong.

  • Take 5 Workshops with invited presenters and CATL staff: The "Take 5" theme is intended to help attendees walk away with 5 strategies they could consider implementing in their classes immediately, should they choose. The idea is to provide practical ideas that can be implemented as early as fall semester.
