A woman of many hats Posted 3 p.m. Tuesday, Dec. 3, 2019 Alumna's estate gift will support future educators forever. Read more about A woman of many hats La Crosse County Courthouse interior courtroom design. This painting has artistic merit, but is also useful in showing how Oyen’s firm would propose design ideas to an architect and client. Many design elements in this painting, including the large mural on the ceiling and the eagle stenciling, were incorporated into the courtroom. Other details in the painting, such as the stenciling behind the judge’s bench and the use of the county’s initials in a “crest,” were modified or left out. Other design elements like the use of columns behind the judge’s bench were not in the design painting, but were a part of the courtroom construction.

The group included 12 male, first and second year students of color; instructors Richard Breaux and Thomas Harris; and two student mentors Yeng Houa Xiong Thao and Gurtej Grewal.
