Brief biography

Lieutenant Colonel Devin Bright graduated from the United States Military Academy in May of 2005 with a Bachelor of Science in Environmental Science and received his commission as an Army Aviator.  After commissioning he attended Initial Entry Rotary Wing training and the Aviation Officer Basic Course at Fort Rucker, Alabama.  LTC Bright completed the OH-58D Aircraft Qualification Course and was assigned to the 10th Combat Aviation Brigade, 10th Mountain Division, Fort Drum, New York.   

LTC Bright first served as an Armament Platoon Leader, D/6-6 Cavalry Squadron before transferring to B/6-6 to serve as an Air Cavalry Scout Platoon Leader, during the unit’s deployment to Operation Iraqi Freedom in 2008-2009. After a short reset and retraining period, he transferred to the 3-10 General Support Aviation Battalion (GSAB) and deployed in support of Operation Enduring Freedom in 2010-2011, once again as an Air Cavalry Scout Platoon Leader.

LTC Bright attended the Aviation Captains Career Course in 2011 and was selected to command B/6-17 CAV, Fort Wainwright, Alaska. He followed this assignment with commands of HHT/6-17 CAV and Rear Detachment 6-17 CAV during the squadron’s deployment to South Korea and ensuing unit deactivation.    

Following the divestiture of the OH-58D by the U.S. Army, LTC Bright voluntarily transferred to Functional Area 49, Operations Research and Systems Analysis (ORSA) and attended George Mason University and Embry-Riddle Aeronautical University where he earned masters degrees in Computational Social Science and Human Factors respectively. As an Army ORSA he held assignments as a Combat Operations Analyst at The Research and Analysis Center (TRAC) in Army Futures Command, White Sands Missile Range (WSMR), NM, War Plan Analyst at the United States Strategic Command, Offutt Air Force Base, NE and Senior Military Analysis at TRAC-WSMR. 

LTC Bright’s military education includes the Joint Firepower Course, the Command and General Staff College, the ORSA Military Applications Course, the FA 49 Qualification course, the Joint Forces Staff College (JPME-II), and the Theater Nuclear Operations Course. He is currently attending the Army War College Distance Education Program. 

LTC Bright’s awards and decorations include the Defense Meritorious Service Medal, Meritorious Service Medal (2 Oak Leaf Clusters), Air Medal (2nd Award), Army Commendation Medal ( Oak Leaf Cluster), National Defense Service Medal, Afghanistan Campaign Medal (1 campaign stars), Iraqi Campaign Medal (2 campaign stars), NATO/ISAF Medal, Global War on Terrorism Service Medal, Overseas Service Ribbon (Numeral 2), Joint Meritorious Unit Award, Meritorious Unit Commendation, Army Superior Unit Award, Senior Aviator Badge, and the Combat Action Badge.  

LTC Bright is married to Dr. Jennifer Tarin-Robeck of El Paso, TX.  Together they have four children, Iris (13), Bryan (11), Isabel (9), and Catherine (7). His hobbies include scuba diving instruction and volunteering with the American Legion Riders.
