First Generation Student Development

Leadership Development

Brief biography

I am a first-generation college student that came from a low-income family. I never really intended to go to college and now, I have made a career out of it! I graduated with a Master’s in Student Affairs Administration from UWL in 2017 and have been working as the Scholarship Coordinator since. I interned within the Financial Aid Office for over a year, where I was able to develop the UWL First! Scholars program from the very beginning. I also worked for the It Make$ Cents! Financial Literacy office as a graduate assistant while completing my master's degree. Some other things I do on campus: I advise the First Gen Organization, a student org dedicated to bringing first-generation students build a community with each other and campus. I also sit on the conduct advisory panel, which oversees academic and sexual misconduct. Before coming to La Crosse, I lived in Corpus Christi, TX and worked as the Area Coordinator for Residence Life at Texas A&M-Corpus Christi. I liked working in residence life but found I could better use my talents and enjoy a healthy work-life balance outside of that lifestyle. I hold a Bachelor of Social Work degree from UW-Eau Claire and worked in residence life as a resident adviser for four years while there. Before going off to college, I lived in the small potato town of Antigo, WI. Nothing much there but potato fields, farms, and a Walmart. I am married and my wife and I have a baby boy named Leo who is now a little over a year and a half old! I also have a dog named Lyra who is a husky mix. When I am not working, I really enjoy Hiking in the bluffs, biking on the many trails around here, and exploring what this city and surroundings have to offer.
