Profile for Jesse Mossholder

Brief biography

I’m Dr. Jesse Mossholder, an Assistant Professor in the School of Education at the University of Wisconsin–La Crosse. Prior to transitioning to higher education, I spent eight years in the classroom, primarily as an 8th grade teacher at Longfellow Middle School in the La Crosse School District.

My work focuses on teacher preparation, mental health, trauma and resilience, social-emotional learning, and whole-person development. I’m particularly interested in helping future educators better understand and support the mental health and well-being of their students.

My doctoral research focused on developing and validating a Mental Health Literacy Scale for Teacher Preparation Faculty. I’m also interested in how teacher preparation programs can better prepare educators to recognize and respond to mental health needs in their schools and communities.

Outside of work, I’m a husband and dad of two. I enjoy spending time with my family, being outdoors, listening to records, cheering for the Green Bay Packers, and working on projects around the house.
