Brief biography

Jaralee is originally from a community, Poynette, WI, just north of Madison. She grew up in the country alongside her 9 brothers and sisters with parents who valued education above all else. Jara received her undergraduate degree in Education and Psychology from UW-Platteville. She went on to attend the University of Iowa, and obtained her Master's Degree in Student Affairs in Higher Education. She worked at the University of Northern Iowa from 1990-94, UW-Stout from 1994-96, and has been working at UW-La Crosse for the past 21 years. She has worked in University Centers during this entire time, but has held various responsibilities throughout her tenure.

Her passions surround her work with students, social justice issues, and making the world a better place. Her mantra comes from the LeaderShape Institute "to create a just, caring, thriving world where all lead with integrity and a healthy disregard for the impossible".

Jara came to La Crosse, WI in 1996 when she married Troy Richter, who also works at UW-La Crosse. They reside on the south side of La Crosse, and have four boys who are active in sports, school, and music. Cole is a second year student at Western Technical College, Jack and Chad are seniors at Central High School, and Mark is a freshman at Central High School. In her spare time she spends time with her family, their dog Echo, running the trails of La Crosse, and reading as many books as she can (with a good cup of coffee in hand).
