Brief biography

Kathryn Sowinski is a Ph.D. candidate in Art and Design Education at Northern Illinois University. She earned her M.A.T and B.F.A. from the Maryland Institute College of Art. A National Board Certified Teacher in Early and Middle Childhood Art, she has served as a visual arts standards reviewer for the National Board for Professional Teaching Standards and has taught elementary, middle, and high school art. Her research interests include the role of assessment in art education, with particular attention to the ways it shapes learning, teaching, and creativity. A painter and mixed media artist, she has shown her artwork nationally and internationally.
