Police Sergeant

Brief biography

My name is Nikki Miller and I'm a Patrol Sergeant at UW-La Crosse PD.  I am married with two children and I have been in law enforcement for over 20 years.  When I'm not working I love spending time with family and friends.  I enjoy camping, traveling with my family, and playing golf in my free time.

Education

I have a Bachelor's Degree in Psychology with an emphasis in counseling from Viterbo University. I am currently pursuing my Master's Degree in Criminal Justice Administration at UW Platteville.

Career

Teaching history

I am an adjunct instructor at Western Technical College in the Law Enforcement and Jail Academies.  I am a Master Instructor Trainer in Defensive Tactics for the law enforcement and jail academies.  I'm also certified to teach Professional Communication Skills, Vehicle Contacts, Scenario Instructor, Axon (TASER) Instructor, and general law enforcement and jail curriculum.

Professional history

I began my career in law enforcement at the La Crosse County Juvenile Detention Facility.  My interest in law enforcement grew and I transferred to the La Crosse County Sheriff's Office as a jailer.  While working as a jailer, I went to Western's Law Enforcement Academy, and after graduation I became a patrol officer at UW La Crosse PD.  After four years of service at UW-La Crosse, I became a patrol officer at the Onalaska Police Department.  I pursued a different path in the profession of law enforcement and  became a full time instructor in Western's Criminal Justice Associate Degree Program.  I was promoted to Sergeant in June 2020 at UWLPD and I'm excited to begin this chapter within law enforcement.
