PSY 450: Internship in Psychology (Fall, Spring)
Important Notes:
- Weekly in-person class meetings are required.
- Start the approval process one semester before enrolling in PSY 450.
Internship Approval Process:
- Prepare in Advance
- Plan to apply for internships the semester before you will take internship for credit.
- Review the information video.
- Search for an Internship
- Log into Handshake using your UWL credentials.
- Set up your profile and search for internships using Handshake, the internet, or other resources (i.e. your social network, LinkedIn, etc.).
- Secure Your Internship for Course Credit
- If you have questions about your specific internship position, reach out to the PSY 450 instructor (psyinterncoord@uwlax.edu) early in the process.
- Apply for, interview with, and confirm that you have accepted an internship placement (i.e., get the job!).
- After you have secured site/internship placement and know the details about your internship, log into Handshake, go to "Career Center" → "Experiences" → "Submit an Experience."
- Complete the form and select PSY 450 for course credit (2 credits = 80 hours, 3 credits = 120 hours, 4 credits = 160 hours).
- Submit the required 2-Page Essay on Handshake.
- Final Approval & Registration
- Career Services and the PSY 450 instructor will both review your submission to verify your experience meets the requirements.
- Approval will take a minimum of 2 weeks and approvals are not guaranteed.
- Following approval, you will be enrolled in the PSY 450 course by Career Services.
