International Experience Requirement

International Business majors must complete an international experience of at least three weeks duration prior to graduation. The international experience must be pre-approved by the College of Business Administration International Business Advisory Committee. Students should apply for approval at least one semester before the planned experience. The advisory committee will determine the credit value of the experience. For non-U.S. based students, this requirement is met through the satisfactory completion of all required course work.

Most students choose to fulfill this requirement by studying abroad, many for a full semester or during the summer. Recently, College of Business Administration students studied in Cuba, Argentina, South Africa, United Kingdom, Slovakia, Italy, Spain, Denmark, Germany, Switzerland, New Zealand, Ireland, and more!

CBA Faculty-Led Study Abroad Programs

The CBA also offers its own, faculty-led programs as well, and the options vary from year to year. Some programs include:

International Business Consulting Program - Slovakia

The Global Consulting Program (GCP) provides business students with hands-on international consulting experience. Participants work in cross-cultural teams to research and develop solutions for real companies in Slovakia, applying classroom concepts in a practical business setting. The program includes company visits, cultural experiences, and opportunities to explore Bratislava alongside peers from UWL and the Economics University of Bratislava.

International Marketing - London

This summer program offers students valuable cross-cultural and international marketing experience in one of the world’s leading economic and cultural centers. Students take MKT 440: Comparative Marketing Systems and MKT 445: International Marketing Strategies (6 credits), examining the U.K. macro environment and applying course concepts to real marketing strategy development. Program activities typically include visits to the U.S. Embassy, the Museum of London, marketing research and advertising firms, and major market sites, providing insight into how global changes shape marketing practices.

Sustainable Business - Ireland

This 6-credit program focuses on sustainable business through Sustainable Marketing (MKT 351) and Social Entrepreneurship (MGT 422). Students explore how sustainability influences business in Ireland by engaging with for-profit, non-profit, governmental, and community organizations. Through site visits, guest lectures, panels, and field experiences—particularly within the agriculture, food, and beverage sectors—students connect academic theory with real-world sustainable business practices.
