Welcome to February
Greetings from the Division of Access, Belonging, & Compliance!
We’re excited to get back into the swing of a new semester, and to highlight the many ways our AB&C departments and UWL partners are fostering belonging, connection, and community engagement across campus and throughout the greater La Crosse community!
February features several signature AB&C events, including our campus-wide celebration of Black History Month, which will feature none other than UWL alum and current La Crosse Mayor Shaundel Washington-Spivey. This month also brings some exciting opportunities from our student orgs, including Reflections of Ebony, sponsored by Black Student Unity, and Bridging the Gap, the annual conference hosted by the Hmong Organization Promoting Education. Each of these gatherings offers unique opportunities for reflection, connection, and important dialogue.
We’re also proud to shine a spotlight on our Student of the Month, Maddie Foley, a senior Political Science major and part of the CDCE student staff, whose dedication to academics, campus involvement, and leadership exemplifies the spirit of UWL. Maddie’s commitment to learning, service, and personal growth inspires us all. Stop by and say hey at the CDCE front desk!
In parting, a quick reminder that the spaces and faces across AB&C are here for all of you. If you need support, an ear to listen, or just a quiet space to work or reflect, our doors are open. Additionally, if you’re looking specifically for a place to talk about current events, consider attending the next Lean-In Lunch, hosted by CDCE, on Feb. 10. These events are open to all, and offer community members the chance to share whatever might be on their minds in an open and curious environment.
We hope to see you at one (or several!) of these events throughout the month. Wishing you all a successful spring semester.
In Community,
Stacy Narcotta-Welp, Vice Chancellor
Dr. Nevin J. Heard, Asst. Vice Chancellor
