Students must have a Bachelor degree at the start of the program or be enrolled in the Dual Degree Program.

Prerequisite Coursework

Required Prerequisites

The Athletic Training program utilizes ATCAS to verify prerequisite coursework prior to program admission. Each applicant must provide an official transcript listing prerequisite coursework. If all prerequisite coursework is not completed prior to being admitted, the student will be notified that their admission is pending completion of the required prerequisites.

The program’s prerequisite courses include (the indented bullet indicates acceptable courses):

  • General Biology – 4 credits including a lab
    • General I Biology, General II Biology, Cell Biology, Microbiology, Advanced Biology
  • Human Anatomy - minimum of 3 credits*
  • Human Physiology - minimum of 3 credits*
  • Chemistry - 4 credits including a lab
    • General Chemistry I or II, Biochemistry, Organic or Inorganic Chemistry, Advanced Chemistry
  • Physics - 4 credits including a lab
    • General Physics I or II, Advanced Physics
  • Statistics – 3 credits
    • Statistics or Applied Statistics
  • Physiology of Exercise – 3 credits
    • Exercise Physiology, Applied Exercise Physiology, Pathophysiology of Exercise
  • Biomechanics – 3 credits
    • Biomechanics, Applied Sports Science
  • Psychology - 3 credits
    • General Psychology, Sports Psychology, Social Psychology, Developmental Psychology, Life Span Development

*Anatomy and Physiology may be completed by an A & P series that covers two semesters or one course in Human Anatomy and a separate course in Human Physiology.

If a student has taken a course that they believe meets the prerequisite requirement and is not listed, the Program Director will request a course description and/or syllabus of the course to determine the quality of the potential prerequisite course.

The application must document a plan to complete all unfinished prerequisite coursework. All prerequisite course work must be earned from a regionally accredited institution and be verifiable through official transcripts.

Preferred Prerequisite Courses:

  • Second Physics  - 4 credits including a lab
  • Motor Learning or Behavior – 3 credits
  • Nutrition – 3 credits
GRE

GRE is not required.

Observation hours

Observation hours are not required but encouraged.
