Inclusive Teaching Institute 2021

The Center for Advancing Teaching and Learning and the Institute for Social Justice will again offer an institute on inclusive teaching practices January 11th-15th, 2021. This one-week virtual immersive experience will allow participants to explore inclusive teaching practices and social justice pedagogies as they work independently on redesigning one course for Spring 2021. Participation carries a $500 stipend and is limited to 8 faculty across the university.


To apply, please send the following to Kate Parker, CATL Inclusive Excellence Specialist, via email ( no later than noon Monday, November 30th, 2020:

  • Name, department/college affiliation
  • Course (name & number) for proposed redesign
  • A short description of some of the concerns you struggle with in this particular course that you are hoping to address with your participation in the institute;
  • A brief paragraph describing the goals for the redesign of this particular course and why you feel it would benefit from adopting more inclusive teaching practices.

Decisions will be made based upon:

  • Instructor availability (must be available to join virtual work sessions during the week of January 11th-15th)
  • Interest in redesigning a course to be taught in Spring 2021
  • Impact of proposed changes on student learning
  • Representation across disciplines and Colleges
  • Instructor's commitment to implement proposed changes.
