This year’s Wisconsin Trout Stream Restoration Workshop explores Streams in Motion: Restoring Connectivity & Freedom to Meander.
A healthy stream is not static. Its channel moves, sediment travels, water spreads onto floodplains, habitats shift, and aquatic organisms move through connected stream networks. Restoration strategies increasingly recognize that long-term stream health depends not only on what happens within the channel, but also on the connections among the stream, floodplain, riparian corridor, wetlands, and surrounding watershed.
Streams in Motion invites us to consider what happens when those connections are restored—and what opportunities exist to give streams more room to function as dynamic systems.
Through expert presentations, case studies, and facilitated discussion, this year’s workshop will examine how restoring connectivity, movement, and natural stream processes can support healthier trout habitat and more resilient stream systems. Sessions will consider the connections among channels, floodplains, riparian areas, wetlands, and watersheds, with an emphasis on practical approaches to restoration and management.

For 2027, the Wisconsin Trout Stream Restoration Workshop is moving from August to January 13, 2027.
Because the workshop is currently offered online, January provides an opportunity to gather outside of the busy field season while maintaining the same interactive, practice-focused experience. The winter timing also creates space for professionals, faculty, and students to connect, share lessons from the previous field season, and consider restoration priorities and approaches for the year ahead.

Share your work at the Wisconsin Trout Stream Restoration Workshop
Submit a Presentation Proposal
We invite scientists, resource managers, and restoration practitioners to submit presentation proposals for the Wisconsin Trout Stream Restoration Workshop. This annual event brings together people working across disciplines to explore how stream, riparian, wetland, and watershed processes shape trout habitat—and how that understanding can guide restoration and management decisions.
We welcome proposals that share research findings, applied projects, case studies, or lessons learned. Presentations that connect science with practical decision-making and encourage discussion across fields are especially encouraged.
Join us online on January 13, 2026, to share your work and learn from others working to conserve and restore trout streams. Presentations should be 45-60 minutes in length.
The online form will prompt you to enter:
- Presentation title
- Description of your presentation in 7-8 sentences
- A brief biography (7-8 sentences) to be used on the program website if selected
- Explain how your education, experience, and/or training qualifies you to speak on the subject matter of the presentation
- Upload a resume or curriculum vitae

Registration includes access to the online workshop on January 13, 2027. CEUs are also included but will only be awarded for participation in the live sessions on January 13, 2027.
UWL Continuing Education Units (CEUs)
0.6 CEUs/6 contact hours
Continuing education units are a means of recognizing and recording satisfactory participation in non-degree programs. UWL CEUs fulfill continuing education requirements for many professionals, agencies and organizations. Professional associations may have specific licensing requirements. Individuals should contact their licensing association before assuming UWL CEUs will fulfill all requirements. UWL keeps records of individual CEUs for three years of programming. Certificates are emailed within two weeks of the conclusion of each program.
Cancellation Policy
Substitutions are welcome. A full refund less $25 processing fee will be issued for cancellations received two weeks prior to the event. No refunds for cancellations after that date. Cancellations and substitutions must be submitted in writing to: ex@uwlax.edu.
