Eagle Guide LogoEagle Guides are current UWL undergraduate students who serve as peer leaders for all new students at UWL. Eagle Guides assist with the implementation of START and/or New Student Orientation. Eagle Guides are well-respected, academically balanced leaders on campus. They are chosen based on their current and potential academic, interpersonal, and leadership qualities.
We are no longer accepting Eagle Guide Applications. Be on the lookout for 2026-2027.
Lead Eagle Guides
Lead Eagle Guide Job Information
Overview
Lead Eagle Guides support New Student and Family Programs by helping plan and deliver START and New Student Orientation, as well as provide leadership for current Eagle Guides.
Responsibilities
- Recruit, train, and mentor Eagle Guides
- Assist with START, NSO, and move-in
- Lead small groups and training sessions
- Connect new students to campus resources
- Represent UW–La Crosse professionally and uphold conduct standards
Time Commitment
January–September 2026 as needed.
June (START): June 12 (training), 15, 17, 18, 19, 22, 23, 25, 26, and 29
August/September (NSO): September 2-7
Compensation & Benefits
- $11/hour
- Meals during training and NSO
- June housing if needed
- Leadership and professional development
Requirements
- Undergraduate student enrolled Fall 2026
- Previous experience as an Eagle Guide
- Good disciplinary standing
- Strong leadership, communication, and teamwork skills
- Positive attitude toward UW–La Crosse

START Eagle Guide
START Eagle Guide Job Information
Overview
START Eagle Guides welcome new students and families and support their transition to UW–La Crosse by helping deliver engaging START programs and sharing key academic and campus resources.
Responsibilities
- Welcome and assist new students and families
- Assist in Residence Life led Student Engagement Sessions
- Support class registration and academic processes
- Share campus services and resources
- Assist with START logistics and customer service
- Represent the university professionally and uphold conduct standards
Time Commitment
- Training: June 12, 2026
- START dates: June 15, 17, 18, 19, 22, 23, 25, 26, and 29
- Hours: 7:00 a.m.–5:00 p.m.
- Conflicts must be disclosed in advance
Compensation & Benefits
- $9/hour
- Lunch provided on START dates
- June on-campus housing if needed
- Eagle Guide apparel

NSO Eagle Guide
NSO Eagle Guide Job Information
Overview
NSO Eagle Guides welcome and support over 2,200 new first-year and transfer students by helping them transition to UW–La Crosse during New Student Orientation.
Responsibilities
- Welcome and connect with new students
- Lead small-group discussions and icebreakers
- Assist with move-in and NSO events
- Share campus resources and make referrals
- Support students’ sense of belonging and engagement
- Represent the university professionally and uphold conduct standards
Time Commitment
- Training: September 2-3, 2026
- NSO: September 4-7 2026 (all-day availability required)
- Conflicts must be disclosed in advance
Compensation & Benefits
- $9/hour
- Meals during training and NSO
- Early move-in housing if needed
- Eagle Guide apparel
