This portion of the website provides a wealth of information specific to clinical internship. Most of your clinical internship documentation is maintained in an electronic clinical management system (CMS); common for many students enrolled in allied health programs.
The UWL Medical Dosimetry program uses the Typhon CMS. Login here.
Clinical Affective Evaluations
The preceptor and/or clinical instructor will be filling out three affective evaluations per semester regarding your overall clinical performance. These are completed electronically in the Typhon CMS system.
- Sample Level I Affective Clinical Evaluation
- Sample Level II Affective Clinical Evaluation
- 2025 Clinical Schedule (use for rotation dates and evaluation due dates)
- 2026 Clinical Schedule (use for rotation dates and evaluation due dates)
Competencies
There are a specific number of competencies needed each semester in order to graduate. The competency evaluation forms are completed by clinical staff within the Typhon CMS system.
Clinical Competency Requirements & Evaluations Policies
Sample Competency Evaluations:
MR Safety Policy
Please read the updated MRI Safety Policy in the student handbook. The safety policy and screening protocol will be completed by the student before clinical internship.
Too Sick for Clinical Policy
Interns are required to follow Too Sick for Clinical Internship requirements. If an intern presents with conditions, such as the examples listed, it is the clinical preceptor’s discretion to send the intern home or accept the intern into the clinical setting. The intern will be required to use PTO time for his/her absence. The return-to-internship protocol and other illness-related situations must follow the hospital (clinical facility) policies.
Note: if an intern is on narcotic prescription drugs, the intern will not be permitted to participate in clinical activities due to the potential side effects and altered mental status.

Time Logs
Within Typhon, you will enter your clinical and didactic hours daily. Full time students must complete 6.0 hours per day devoted to clinical time excluding breaks or lunch. (Part-time students must complete an 4.0 hours per day devoted to clinical time excluding breaks). It is recommended you devote 2 hours of online classroom time during the day to ensure instructors and program officials are available for help or questions. This classroom time may include some time on the TPS needed to complete class projects and/or lab assignments. You will also spend additional time completing homework and assignments during evenings and weekends.
Conference attendance
You should be attending all the conferences offered within the Radiation department (QA, chart rounds, new patient conference). Log conferences in Typhon.
Procedure/Case Logs
Within Typhon, you will enter the procedures you have observed, assisted with, or performed during clinical internship. There are blank procedure/case log forms (within Typhon or below) that you can use to track procedures throughout the day, but remember to enter those in Typhon daily.
Clinical Orientation
The following Tentative Clinical Schedule represents the minimum requirements for you during clinical internship. If you are not meeting these minimum requirements, you need to contact the Clinical Coordinator immediately.
Clinical Schedule - Full-Time Schedule
Tentative Clinical Schedule - Part-Time Schedule
During the first two weeks of clinical internship the student should receive an orientation to review all policies and procedures of the department. For full-time students, this orientation period will consist of 8 hours of clinical per day prior to the start of formal classes. During this two week period:
- Student/preceptor need to review and complete the Safety form and the Student Supervision policy (see policy details below) and then submit the signed documents to Clinical Internship I. Both of these forms can also be found on the clinical preceptor website.
- Student/preceptor must establish a schedule for the year. The proposed daily class/clinic schedule should be scanned and submitted in Clinical Internship I for the clinical coordinator's approval.
Student Supervision
The medical dosimetry student must be supervised by a qualified practitioner (e.g. certified medical dosimetrist, credentialed medical physicist, licensed radiation oncologist) during all procedures that have direct patient contact.
All clinical procedures/tasks (e.g. dose calculations, treatment plans, etc.) performed by the students must be approved by a qualified practitioner prior to implementation.
The program requires the clinical preceptor and clinical instructors to review the program and student supervision policies with the student during the orientation period and all individuals (preceptor, clinical instructors and student) must sign to acknowledge the program and student supervision policy.
The student is responsible for submitting this signed document to the Clinical Internship I course.
Evaluation of Program Officials
Clinical Instructors
Students will evaluate the clinical staff at the end of every semester via the Typhon System. This feedback and any suggestions are made available to the evaluated Instructor evaluated in the Typhon system. The student may evaluate more than one instructor in a semester.
Course evaluations
Course Evaluations - students evaluate the course/instructor at the end of every didactic course through CANVAS (online course management system). This feedback is used to make improvements or changes to the course at the next offering.
This portion of the website will provide all pertinent information regarding schedules. You will find the master program curricular schedule (per Track) as well as semester schedules.
Daily Logins
As an online student, you are required to check UWL email daily (this does not mean access Canvas Inbox) and to login to all active program courses in Canvas daily. It is highly recommended to do this a few times per day to ensure you do not miss pertinent notices.
Schedules
These are tentative schedules. The instructor/program officials will notify you if there are changes. These schedules will help guide you with registering for courses each semester (make sure you are following the correct Track).
Choose the appropriate semester, and follow the color-coded key for your Track on the grid:
Overall Program Curricular Schedule Per Track

Holidays
Students are granted 6 holidays throughout the year. The other holidays throughout the year coincide with the semester breaks so they are not listed here. The holidays are as follows:
- Martin Luther King Jr. Day
- Memorial Day
- Independence Day
- Labor Day
- Thanksgiving
- The Friday following Thanksgiving
Additional time off
In addition to having the above holidays off, you will also have a spring break in March (this coincides with the University's spring break). You will have breaks in between semesters that (most often) coordinate with the UW-La Crosse semester schedule.
Track A/B: You are also allowed to use 5 days of PTO (this is any "personal" time off, i.e. vacation or sick time) throughout the year (January through December) and 2 days for interviewing.
On this section of the website, you will find various academic resources to help you throughout the program.

Graduation
Every student must apply for graduation in WINGS immediately after registering for your final semester at UW-La Crosse. For medical dosimetry, this means you will need to apply for graduation before Fall Semester starts. Visit the Graduation Checklist on the commencement page for more details.
