Returning to UWL

Re-entry students are described as:

Undergraduate students who previously attended UWL as a degree-seeking student and wish to return
Graduate students who previously attended UWL at the graduate level and are seeking to return to the graduate program in which they were previously enrolled

Eligibility

Admission decisions are based on previous academic performance at UWL and at any institution attended after leaving UWL.

To be considered for re-entry, applicants must:

Be eligible to return to the last institution you attended
Meet UWL academic admission requirements
Resolve outstanding holds with UWL

Transfer Coursework
Students who attended another institution after leaving UWL are evaluated based on their transfer coursework.

Cumulative GPA in transferable coursework
- 2.25 or higher cumulative GPA indicates a stronger candidate for admission
- 2.00-2.24 cumulative GPA may be considered for admission if space is available

Previous Academic Ineligibility at UWL
Students who left UWL as academically ineligible must contact the dean of the college in which they intend to enroll. The dean's office will notify Admissions if the student is approved for readmission.

Graduate Applicants
Graduate applicants intending to re-enter their previously enrolled graduate program should connect with the program director to determine cohort availability.

Materials for Admission

Application
Complete the Universities of Wisconsin Application

Select "Yes" to the question: "Are you returning to the Universities of Wisconsin campus that you attended before as a degree-seeking student?"
Re-entry students are not required to pay the application fee

Official Transcripts
Request official transcripts from any institution attended after you left UWL. Admissions will access your official UW-La Crosse transcript.

Monitor Application Status

Applicants access WINGS to:

Confirm receipt of application materials
Track application status

Instructions for completing account activation and gaining WINGS access are emailed to students within a few days of application submission.

Application Review

Re-entry admissions decisions are typically mailed within 1-2 weeks after application completion (i.e., submission of all required items).

Application periods

UWL does not have a re-entry application deadline. Applications are reviewed on a rolling basis until enrollment capacity for the desired term has been reached.

Intersted students are encouraged to apply as early as possible; space in a given term may become limited.
