Transfer opportunities
UWL offers scholarship programs for transfer students. Students are encouraged to apply for admission early to receive the best consideration for available awards.
Transfer Merit-Based Scholarships
In recognition of outstanding academic achievement, UWL awards merit-based scholarships to selected transfer students. Admitted students are automatically considered for these funds; no separate scholarship application is required.
Competitive award process with examination of
- Application and admission to UWL before the February 1 priority deadline
- Cumulative college GPA
- UWL application essay
Funding is limited; students are encouraged to apply early for admission to be considered for available funds. Scholarship award notifications are mailed from Admissions to selected students beginning in late fall and continuing until funds are depleted.
Distinguished Transfer Scholars Award
The Distinguished Transfer Scholars Award recipients are selected based on information provided as part of the application for admission, including cumulative college GPA and/or Pell Grant eligibility.
Selected students receive $5,000 with an opportunity to renew for an additional year (total award value up to $10,000). Renewal is contingent on full-time enrollment and maintaining a 3.0 UWL resident GPA.
Distinguished PTK Transfer Scholarship
Students interested in this scholarship must indicate Phi Theta Kappa (PTK) involvement in the activity section of their application for admission. Recipients are selected based on information provided as part of the application for admission, including cumulative college GPA and/or Pell Grant eligibility.
Selected students receive $5,000, with the opportunity to renew for an additional year (total award value up to $10,000). Renewal is contingent on full-time enrollment and maintaining a 3.0 UWL resident GPA.
Bridging the Bluffs: Western Technical College to UWL Transfer Scholarship
Supports students who are direct transfers from Western Technical College (enrolled in a Western Technical College program at the time of application to UWL). Candidates must have a minimum of 15 transferable credits from Western Technical College (post-high school) with preference given to students who are first-generation or with demonstrated financial need.

Foundation Scholarships
The UWL Foundation awards over $500,000 in scholarship money each year. Admitted students can apply for Foundation Scholarships annually from October 1 through January 15.
