The Department Recreation Management and Recreational Therapy hosts two student organizations.  Details of the two clubs are:

The R.E.C. Club

(Recreational Opportunity, Experiential Education & Development, and Community Among Students & Professionals Club)

The R.E.C. Club is a group of Recreation Management students, and students interested in recreation who gather in a regular basis to offer opportunities for professional development, service, fundraising and to create a community among students, faculty, and professionals involved with recreation management.  Each year we engage in a variety of activities.

Annually, we start fall semester meeting to discuss professional development by supporting member attendance at the Wisconsin Parks & Recreation Association Annual Conference.  Members also have involvement with the Wisconsin Governor's Conference on Tourism.

Socially, the club has organized time to spend together off campus, hiking in the bluffs, bowling downtown, and more. Recreation minded individuals make up our relaxed club that, in addition to professional development and socials, organizes volunteer engagements with events like the Rotary Lights Display at Riverside Park.

If you're interested in getting involved or would just like a little more information on our club, please feel free to contact either of the following individuals:

President, Jennifer Wallace
Faculty Advisor, Dr. Dan Plunkett

Recreational Therapy Club

Since its inception, members of the UWL Recreational Therapy Club have been dedicated to enhancing their experience as majors in RT at UWL.

Members of the RT Club have consistently:

  • Volunteered their time to community organizations providing services to people with disabilities, e.g., caroling with residents in long term care facilities; making holiday cards for residents in long term care facilities; participating in fundraising events such as the Polar Plunge for Special Olympics, the Down Syndrome Awareness Walk; the Race for the Cure; and the La Crosse Scarecrow Fest.
  • Created a forum to present programming ideas such as rubber stamping, laughter yoga, and animal assisted therapy at meetings.
  • Invited guest speakers from the field to talk about trends and issues.

Most importantly, members of the RT Club support each other. Whether a new RT major needs help negotiating through courses or an older RT major needs advice on selecting an internship, the RT Club is here for YOU!
