Graduate students

Review the application process

Each graduate program at UWL has its own application process. Review your program's Application Process webpage for program-specific application requirements and deadlines.

For university-wide graduate admission requirements, refer to the Graduate Catalog.

Submit an application

  • Complete the Universities of Wisconsin application to begin your application for graduate study at UWL.
  • The $56 application fee is non-refundable and does not apply to graduate tuition. You can pay the fee within your Universities of Wisconsin application portal or by mailing a check to Admissions (payable to UWL).

McNair Scholars Fee Waiver:  McNair scholars may request an application fee waiver form from your undergraduate McNair Scholars office and email the completed form to UWL Admissions to request the application fee waiver

Order official transcripts

Your application will be considered incomplete until Admissions receives all required official transcripts:

  • Undergraduate transcripts from institutions where 10 or more undergraduate semester credits were completed
  • Undergraduate transcripts from institutions where graduate program prerequisite courses were completed
  • Undergraduate transcripts from any international university where the student was enrolled for more than one semester
  • All graduate transcripts
  • Additional transcripts may be required at the discretion of the university or graduate program.

SAA EdD & Certificate of Higher Education Leadership applications: The undergraduate transcript requirement is met by submitting an official transcript from the institution that awarded your undergraduate degree. All graduate transcripts must be submitted.

Current UWL undergraduate students and alumni: Students who attended UWL do not need to submit official UWL transcripts. Admissions will access your UWL academic record.

Submit supplemental materials

Some graduate programs require the submission of supplemental application materials to complete your application. Review your program's Application Process webpage to determine whether supplemental materials are required and review the submission instructions.

Apply: Other graduate student types

Non-degree Seeking

Students who want to take individual graduate courses without pursuing a graduate certificate or degree.

  • Complete the Universities of Wisconsin application
  • No application fee or transcripts required
  • If a course has prerequisites, contact the dean's office for the academic department offering the course to request permission to enroll.

Re-entry

Previously enrolled UWL graduate students who are returning to a graduate degree program they previously left voluntarily.

Before you apply: Contact your graduate program to confirm cohort availability.

International

Students who are citizens of countries outside the United States.

  • Complete the application steps above and submit:
    • Proof of English language proficiency
    • Proof of funding
    • Copy of passport
