Materials to submit

We are delighted that you are interested in joining UWL as an exchange student through one of our partner institutions. To apply for admission, submit the following items:

Application

Complete the online Universities of Wisconsin application 

  • Apply as a Special/Non-Degree Student
  • Exchange students are not required to pay the application fee

Required supporting documents

Submit all supporting documents by email to: UWL International Admissions or Heather Pearson, International Admissions Counselor


Academic Records

Submit your university transcript(s):

  • Official, certified, or attested transcripts are accepted
  • Documents issued in a language other than English must be accompanied by a certified English translation
  • If your current courses are not listed on your transcript, provide a separate list of current courses in progress

Course Selection Form

Use the UWL course catalog or course timetable (when available) to identify courses you would like to take during your exchange program at UWL. Record selections on the Course Selection Form. 

Please note that course enrollment is not guaranteed. Academic advisors will review your selections and determine eligibility based on course availability and prerequisite requirements.


English language proficiency

Non-native English speakers must submit proof of English proficiency. This requirement may be satisfied by achieving one of the following minimum scores:

  • TOEFL iBT (Test of English as a Foreign Language Internet-Based Test): 4.0 (UWL code 1914)
  • IELTS (International English Language Testing System): 6.0
  • DET (Duolingo English Test): 100
  • PTE Academic (Pearson Test of English): 54
  • DAAD (German Academic Exchange Service): English level of B2

Proof of funding

Complete the 2026-27 Exchange Student Affidavit of Support.


Passport copy

Submit a copy of the photo identification page of your passport

Monitor application status

Applicants access WINGS to:

  • Confirm receipt of application materials
  • Track application status

Instructions for completing account activation and gaining WINGS access are emailed to students within a few days of application submission.
