Materials to submit
To begin your application as an international graduate student, submit the following items:
Application
Complete the online Universities of Wisconsin application
Application fee
Submit the $56 non-refundable application fee (payable by credit card through the online application portal).
Supplemental application items
Some graduate programs require supplemental application items. Be sure to review your program's Application Process webpage to ensure you have completed all application pieces.
Required supporting documents
Submit all supporting documents via email to: UWL International Admissions or Heather Pearson, International Admissions Counselor
Academic Records
Provide official academic records for all schools attended
- Official, certified, or attested transcripts from all secondary and post-secondary institutions.
- Documents issued in a language other than English must include a certified English translation.
- The Physical Therapy, Occupational Therapy, and Physician Assistant Studies programs require credit evaluation through WES or ECE. ECE offers a 10% discount if you apply through the ECE University of Wisconsin - La Crosse Select Application
Proof of English Proficiency
Non-native English speakers must demonstrate English proficiency. Requirements vary by graduate program, and test scores must be no more than two years old at the time of application.
Health professions programs minimum proficiency scores:
Includes Athletic Training, Nurse Anesthesia, Physical Therapy, Medical Dosimetry, Occupational Therapy, and Physician Assistant Studies
- TOEFL iBT (Test of English as a Foreign Language Internet-Based Test): 5.0 (UWL code 1914)
- IELTS (International English Language Testing System): 7.5
- DET (Duolingo English Test): 135
- PTE Academic (Pearson Test of English): 68
Non-health professions programs minimum proficiency scores:
- TOEFL iBT (Test of English as a Foreign Language Internet-Based Test): 4.5 (UWL code 1914)
- IELTS (International English Language Testing System): 6.0
- DET (Duolingo English Test): 110
- PTE Academic (Pearson Test of English): 60
English-minimum degree exception:
A bachelor’s or higher degree from UWL or another approved institution where English is the sole language of instruction may satisfy this requirement.
- The degree must be earned within two years of your expected enrollment at UWL.
- The applicant must have attended the approved institution for a minimum of 2 years.
Proof of Financial Support
Submit documentation demonstrating adequate financial support for your studies.
- Complete the Affidavit of Support
- Submit a current bank statement for the individual listed as your sponsor
Passport
Submit a copy of the photo identification page of your passport
UWL works with select education consulting agencies on a commission basis to assist students with the admission process.
Monitor application status
Applicants access WINGS to:
- Confirm receipt of application materials
- Track application status
Instructions for completing account activation and gaining WINGS access are emailed to students within a few days of application submission.
