Literary and Cultural Studies minor
Minors in Literature encounter and interpret a wide variety of texts representing the great range of human experience and expression. Through varied fictional and nonfictional constructs, literature inspires students to ask questions regarding social structures, individual decisions, and perennial human dilemmas. The interdisciplinary nature of literary study ensures that these questions are asked and answered in ways that do not compromise the complexity of human experience. Writing, thinking, and argument/analysis skills acquired in this minor are transferable because they are taught in the rich contexts of imagined life. The minor thus provides a strong complement to many different careers, including those in medicine, law, human services, business, education and communications, in addition to serving as helpful preparation for graduate programs. Open to any students except those in teacher certification programs.
